here are some Frequently Asked Questions
?
can anyone learn how to sing?
YES! Absolutely! Now I'm not saying I can turn everyone into Beyonce or Stevie Wonder, but anyone can make improvements! With a combination of practicing, changing your vocal habits, natural talent, your personality, and implementing the techniques you learn, you will make huge improvements! How far you take it depends on how often you're putting everything you learn into practice! A lot of people just need to know and feel that what you're doing is correct. The confidence that comes with that makes your voice shine.
do you only teach professional singers?
even though a large amount of singers I work with are in the industry, I do not exclusively work with professionals! some of my favorite teaching moments have been with passionate singers who are hitting a high note in their chest voice for the first time, or who overcome their nerves for their first performance! I enjoy working with people who love it sing.
how long until I'll see results
Honestly, this really does depend on you! Within the first few sessions I'll give you beginner techniques to help improve your vocal tone and clarity and you'll begin to gain control over your voice. As you master that, the lessons get more in-depth and techniques get more challenging, but we go at your own pace! Some people see improvements in as little as 6 lessons, others may see a difference after 6 months, but I promise you, as long as you keep it up and you're implementing everything we do in sessions every time you sing, you will see results sooner than you think!
I have an audition in 2 weeks, help!
Call me.....now! We'll get you audition ready! I will work with your schedule to fit in as many sessions as you feel you need! From choosing your audition piece, to preparing your voice, and getting you vocally and mentally ready to audition at your best! It's not too late, this happens way more often than you think. Don't turn down the audition because you think you're not prepared, we will get you there!!
what does an average lessons look like?
Each lesson really is different! After assessing your starting point, and working out your vocal plan of action, hour lessons tend to start with a quick vocal warm up, but I believe in the hands-on approach so we won't spend hours doing scales! Once you're voice is ready to go, we begin implementing the techniques you've been working on to your chosen song. Making sure you're breathing correctly, and you're tension free. I do like to audio record your vocal starting point, so we'll choose a song, record it, work on it for a few weeks, then re-record it so you can hear the improvements you've made! Or maybe we're putting the finishing flourishes on a song you've written, getting you ready for performance, going over stage and microphone techniques, whatever you need to vocally work on, we will do it!
what are some of the techniques I'll learn?
Here are some of the techniques we will go over! Again, we work at your own pace and at your current ability! So you may look at these and think, I know some of this - great! So we'll go over what you don't know! Or you may think I don't know any of this - perfect! We can start at the very beginning!!
Correct breathing (physically and lyrical placement) / Mouth movements / Extend your range / Supporting high notes / Vocal onsets / Performance techniques / Stylistic expression / Smooth your vocal break / Microphone technique / Songwriting and recording
someone told me I was tone deaf.....
Who said this thing to you?! Let me be the judge of that! But do you love to sing? Want to improve, willing to practice?........
Then does it matter what this one person said!
can we extend my range, work on my tone, breath better, sustain notes, sing louder, work on belt, chest voice, head voice???
Yes, yes, yes, yes, YES! I got you!
Finding someone you trust with your voice to guide you in the direction that is best for you is SO important! Let's have a chat and see if we're a good vocal fit! I've yet to come across someone that I haven't been able to help!
